October Half Term Holidays
With the countdown to Halloween and Christmas here already some of us are searching for some extra sun. The October half term school holiday provides the perfect opportunity for that quick family break in a warm climate before the British winter gets underway.
With temperatures in the UK starting to drop, there are plenty of destinations which remain in the high 20°C s and 30°Cs throughout the month of October. Cyprus’ summer lasts from April to November and with low rainfall, hours of sun and gorgeous beaches, the island is ideal for soaking up some Vitamin D. And if you would prefer to soak up some culture there are old Roman villas, the prehistoric settlement site of Choirokoitia and even ancient Greek plays performed in Roman theatres.
Turkey is another Mediterranean country which enjoys hot weather in the autumn. The beaches on the coast, as well as cities like Istanbul and Izmir, are significantly quieter and often cheaper after the summer months, due to off season prices. October is certainly the best time to enjoy the picturesque beauty of Antalya and visit the Topkapi Palace.
Only four hours flying time the Canary Islands are also blessed with warm weather in October. Tenerife, with its volcanic black sand beaches, has a range of activities that will please the whole family including Siam Water Park, Loro Parque Attraction Park and Mount Teide, the dormant volcano. The second most popular of the islands Gran Canaria is full of attractions too, most notably the Palmitos Bird Park.
If you are prepared for a long haul flight, Hawaii and Dubai receive great weather in October too. Hawaii’s amazing beaches and water sports facilities are famous worldwide and would certainly get rid of any UK post-summer blues. On Hawaii Island, you can visit the Kilauea volcano, see the botanic gardens of Holualoa and try the famous Kona coffee, all whilst enjoying the sunny weather.
Like Hawaii, Dubai experiences average temperatures of up to 30°C even in autumn. Dubai has recently blossomed into a big holiday destination but the scorching heat of the summer does not appeal to everyone. October gives you the perfect chance to enjoy Dubai’s luxurious hotels, beaches, shopping malls and theme parks at a reasonable temperature.
For those who would prefer a city break to appreciate and learn about the culture of their destination, European cities are ideal for the October half term break. Rome’s historical and archaeological riches including the unmissable Coliseum and the Trevi fountain make it one of the most popular cities in the world. Yet in October the city empties and off season prices are available. While you may still need a jacket, the average temperature is still higher than in England which makes touring the city’s cultural riches a delightful adventure.
As one of the largest cities in Spain and the birthplace of Flamenco, Seville is abundant in Spanish culture and is quickly becoming a popular destination. It is known to be more pleasant in October than in the summer due to lower temperatures, fresher air and fewer tourists. Despite this, the city still receives seven hours of sunshine a day and has highs of above 20°C for you to top up that tan.
So if you decide to jet off for the half term holiday, make sure you book your airport parking with I Love meet and greet to leave your worries and hopefully the British winter weather behind you!
